Purpose of This Report

The purpose of this report is to inform you, our customers, of the customer service activities of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the work we have done to make our products, services, and the information we provide reliable, accurate, useful, and relevant to our changing world. Just as important, this report demonstrates that the U.S. Geological Survey is listening to your ideas, feedback, concerns, and compliments, and that we are integrating these into our business and science program areas in order to provide you with the best service possible.

This report is offered in three parts. Part I describes the U.S. Geological Survey, including our mission and the products we produce. Part II summarizes customer service progress in fiscal year 1997. Part III provides you with a draft plan for continuing improvements in fiscal year 1998 and beyond.
