1995 National Assessment of United States Oil and Gas Resources:
Results, Methodology, and Supporting Data

CD-ROM GIFDigital Data Series 30

This U.S. Geological Survey Digital Data Series report summarizes the results of investigations into the oil and gas resources of the onshore and State waters of the United States conducted by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). A parallel study of the Federal offshore is being conducted by the Minerals Management Service. Assuming existing technology, there are approximately 110 BBO (billion barrels) of technically recoverable oil onshore and in State CD-ROM allows the user to browse through the documents and presentations, choosing items of interest in user-selectable order. The USGS National Assessment is an unbiased and scientifically based estimate of the quantity of oil and gas yet to be discovered and of the past and future growth in hydrocarbon reserves onshore and in State waters. The National Assessment describes the sources of oil and gas, where they are, what technology may be needed to recover them and at what price, and at what rate they can be withdrawn. Knowledge of oil and gas resources is necessary for strategic planning, evaluating Federal lands, and developing sound economic, energy, and environmental policies.

See the website, National Oil and Gas Assessment (NOGA Online) for detailed information, maps and data from DDS-30, DDS-35 and DDS-36.
