SHADED RELIEF

This shaded-relief image shows the 
relative elevation change of the Circum-
Pacific region.  The image was derived 
from a mosaic of topography and bathymetry 
grids covering the region.  The original 
dataset is composed of 2-minute resolution 
data for the areas from latitude 72 
degrees South (-72 degrees) to 70 degrees 
North, and 5-minute resolution data north 
and south of those parallels.  The 
original grid theme was downsampled to 
2.5-minute by 2.5-minute resolution before 
conversion to a JPEG image.  The data are 
from the National Geophysical Data Center 
(1988; 1997).
