TROPICAL STORM ZONES This theme shows the tropical storm zones in the Circum-Pacific region. The storm zones are rated according to their value of the Saffir-Simpson hurricane scale, which reflects the probable maximum wind speeds an area will experience, with a 10 percent chance of exceedance every 10 years (over a 100-year period, an area is almost 100 percent likely to experience such winds). The data are from Munich Reinsurance Company (1998).
