U.S. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY DIGITAL DATA SERIES DDS-3 A Geologic Map of the Sea Floor in Western Massachusetts Bay, Constructed from Digital Sidescan-Sonar Images, Photography, and Sediment Samples README.1ST FILE This CD-ROM (Compact Disc-Read Only Memory) has been produced in accordance with the ISO 9660 CD-ROM Standard and is therefore capable of being read on any computing platform that has appropriate CD-ROM driver software installed. However, the access software used on this disc currently executes only under DOS on IBM or compatible personal computers. Two types of data on this disc -- Klein imagery and bathymetry data -- are both in two different formats. The Klein data are in a full-resolution, processed binary file format as well as a compressed format for display purposes. The bathymetry data are in an ASCII file format as well as in a format which is used with the display software. DISC CONTENTS Several DOS subdirectories are contained on this CD-ROM. Their names and the information they contain are listed below: \DOSMENU - This subdirectory contains all the software required to support the menu system used when running under a DOS system. This menu system is typically invoked by issuing the command 'BAYMAP' from the user's root directory. \DOCFILES - This subdirectory contains the ASCII document files for this CD-ROM. These files include: ACKNOWL.DOC - This file provides acknowledgments of the producers of this CD-ROM disc as well as of the sources of the data contained on this disc.
