MAP DATA FORMATS:The map data in USGS DDS-38 were developed using a proprietary software, ARC/INFO (Environmental Systems Research Institute, Inc., Redlands, CA). Map data are provided on the CD-ROM in four formats. Three are proprietary (ARCVIEW Shape, Arc/Info Coverage, and Arc/Info Export v.7.0.4) and one is not (SDTS). "SDTS" is the Topological Vector Profile (TVP) format of the Spatial Data Transfer Standard (refer to Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) number 173 for description). At this Web site, SDTS and Arc/Info Shape format are available. If other formats offered on the CDROM are needed, please order DDS-38 or contact the lead author, Dave Soller. The map data in Arc/Info Shape and coverage formats are compatible with Environmental Systems Research Institute's ArcExplorer software. |
FILE CONTENTS:Map data are divided into twenty-three directories, each containing the files for a 4-degree-by-6-degree quadrangle area. Each directory is available for downloading as a UNIX tar file compressed with gzip (the WinZip shareware utility allows Windows users to access the data contained in this file). Each tar file contains:
