06/06/2011 Geophysical, Geochemical, and Mineralogical Data from the Pebble Cu-Au-Mo Porphyry Deposit Area, Southwest Alaska: Contributions to Assessment Techniques for Concealed Mineral Resources 2011 By E.D. Anderson, S.M. Smith, S.A. Giles, Matthew Granitto, R.G. Eppinger, P.A. Bedrosian, A.K. Shah, K.D. Kelley, D.L. Fey, B.J. Minsley, and P.J. Brown The Geographic Information System (GIS) database, identified as Data Series 608, has been approved for release and publication by the Director of the USGS. Although this database has been subjected to rigorous review and is substantially complete, the USGS reserves the right to revise the data pursuant to further analysis and review. Furthermore, it is released on condition that neither the USGS nor the United States Government may be held liable for any damages resulting from its authorized or unauthorized use. The database can be downloaded via the Web from http://pubs.usgs.gov/ds/608. The database contact is: Eric Anderson U.S. Geological Survey MS 964, PO Box 25046 Denver, CO 80225 303-236-5652 ericanderson@usgs.gov The data within the GIS have been grouped into directories based on scientific themes. Each scientific theme has been .zip archived to facilitate data download of individual themes. The following is a list of directories and a summary of the data contained within them. Each directory contains another 'Readme' file that further describes the data content. Basic directory structure in the \Data folder: \ARDF - Alaska Resource Database File-A subset of the Alaska Resource Database File that contains known mineral occurrences of southwest Alaska \BaseLayers - Quadrangle boundary files \Contours - Contour lines derived from digital elevation model \DEM - Digital elevation models for the Pebble area \Geochemistry - Analytical results for a variety of geochemical analysis \Geology - Surficial and bedrock geology maps \Geophysics - Geophysical data including aeromagnetics, gravity, magnetotelluric, and self-potential \Hydrography - Hydrography data that includes points, lines, and polygons of water features \Landsat - Landsat Enhanced Thematic Mapper scene over the Pebble deposit \Photos - Photographs of soil pits and plots of magnetotelluric resistivity data \RadiometricAges - A subset of the Alaska Radiometric Age Database These data have been compiled into a working GIS database. If individual science themes are downloaded, the original file directory structure (/Data/'Science theme') and placement of either USGS_SouthwestAK.mxd or USGS_SouthwestAK.pmf (described below) must be recreated in order to use the working GIS database. The database can be viewed in ArcGIS Desktop and ArcReader. USGS_SouthwestAK.mxd - An ESRI ArcGIS 9.X map exchange document file with relative paths. If user has ArcGIS 9.X installed, double-click this file to open the GIS database. For faster performance, copy the 'Data' directory and contents to an empty directory on a hard drive (~2.5 gigabytes of space is required). USGS_SouthwestAK.pmf - An ESRI portable map format document. This document can be open and read with ArcReader, a free PMF viewing program from ESRI (www.esri.com). For faster performance, copy the 'Data' directory and contents to an empty directory on a hard drive (~2.5 gigabytes of space is required). ArcReader software is available at: http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis/arcreader/download.html ArcReader System Requirements may be viewed here: http://resources.arcgis.com/content/arcgisdesktop/10.0/arcreader-system-requirements The data within the map documents have been symbolized to help the user familiarize themselves with the data. By no means is the symbolization presented here the only way in which to view the data. The user is encouraged to modify symbology, and the GIS in general, to help them better understand the geological processes in southwest Alaska.
