Revision History for Fact Sheet 2013-3020 U.S. Geological Survey National Assessment of Geologic Carbon Dioxide Storage Resources—Summary ----------------------------------------------------- First posted online June 26, 2013 ----------------------------------------------------- Revised and reposted on September 24, 2013, as Fact Sheet 2013-3020, Version 1.1 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After publication, discrepancies were noticed in the area input for 5 of this report’s 192 quantitatively assessed storage assessment units (SAUs). In the original version of this report, for the U.S. Gulf Coast, the areas for the Norphlet Formation and Norphlet Formation Deep SAUs had been transposed with areas for the Smackover Formation and Smackover Formation Deep SAUs. For the Michigan Basin, there was a transcription mistake in the Dundee Formation SAU that enlarged the originally reported area by 16.5 percent. Corrections of these discrepancies, when propagated to the basin, regional, and national totals, resulted in minor changes. The revised area values affected the total technically accessible storage resource (TASR) values for the mean for the Coastal Plains Region (2,000,000 Mt to 1,900,000 Mt) and the P5 for the Nation (2,400,000 Mt to 2,300,000 Mt). The actual changes were only thousands of megatons; however, rounding to two significant figures created the appearance that differences were hundreds of thousands of megatons. The correct results for the five affected SAUs of the U.S. Gulf Coast and the Michigan Basin are included in version 1.1 of this report. Figure 2, tables 1 and 2, and the text on page 5 include minor changes to correct the effects of these discrepancies.
