Conflict Minerals from the Democratic Republic of the Congo—Tin Processing Plants, a Critical Part of the 
Tin Supply Chain

Background expanded to focus more on the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and mining within.  A paragraph 
was added about the specific locations where tin mining takes place, along with more information on smelting 
and future smelting plants. The Background section has information on tantalum in the impurities; a reference citation has been added.  

Text about the uses of tin was added to the Background section. 

Table 1 data were recalculated with input from the international section.

The Tin Processing Facility Data section was modified to reflect changes to data in table 1.

The World Tin Flows section was added, detailing where tin is consumed and mined.  Discussion highlights how 
the DRC only represents 2 percent of total tin mined in the world, using United Nations Comtrade data. The 
discussion focused on the top three tin producers in the world, China, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
