Bookstrom, A.A., Zientek, M.L., Box, S.E., Derkey, P.D., Elliott, J.E., Frishman, David, Ashley, R.P., Evarts, R.C., Stoeser, D.B., Moyer, L.A., Cox, D.P., and Ludington, Steve, 1996, Status and metal content of significant metallic mineral deposits in the Pacific Northwest: a contribution to the Interior Columbia Basin Ecosystem Management Project: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 95-688, 96 p., plus 2 plates. This report summarizes metal production and resources of significant known metallic mineral deposits of the interior Columbia River Basin and surrounding areas of the Pacific Northwest, east of the crest of the Cascade Range. Metals inventoried include gold, silver, copper, lead, zinc, cobalt, molybdenum, palladium, platinum, chromium, and nickel. Past production and known resources of each significant deposit are given in tonnes of metal. Deposit locations are given by mining district, county, state, latitude-longitude, and Ecological Reporting Unit (ERU). Each deposit is assigned to an appropriate descriptive model, its development status is noted, and sources of information are referenced. The report also describes the contents of a digital dataset (approximately 1.6 MB) which consists of ARC/INFO Export format files and associated macro programs. The dataset includes a map of significant metallic mineral deposits in the northwestern U.S. north of 39 degrees N latitude and west of approximately 108 degrees W longitude. The dataset also includes macro programs and complete plot files for creating paper copies of the map at a scale of 1:2,000,000. A page-sized, black and white version of the map is included in this report as well as a description of how to obtain the dataset over the Internet. The spreadsheet used to create Appendix B, Table of metal production and resources of significant metallic mineral deposits of the Pacific Northwest, is also available over the Internet. Requirements: A networked computer system is required to copy the dataset from the host computer across the Internet. A Geographic Information System capable of importing ARC/INFO Export format files is required for access to the digital files. All plot files are stored in HPGL2 format. The digital dataset files are in UNIX ASCII format.
