The microcomputer must have at least 640K RAM and, as a matter of practicality, a fixed disk drive. A math co-processor is recommended. A text editing program capable of producing ASCII files is also required. GSMGIS was compiled with a Microsoft QuickBASIC Compiler, Release 4.00b. The program was tested on a Gateway 486 microcomputer running MS-DOS Version 5.0 and a Gateway P5-90 microcomputer running MS-DOS Version 6.22. CONTENTS OF THE RELEASE DISK The release disk contains the following files: README.1ST Microcomputer system requirements, release disk contents, instructions for installing the GSMGIS program , and instructions for printing the documentation on the release disk (this file) GSMGIS.ASC Documentation for GSMGIS (ASCII file) APP_A.ASC Map projections (information and examples) APP_B.ASC REFRMDLG example run APP_C.ASC Summary table of major-minor codes for 1:2,000,000-scale Digital Line Graphs APP_D.ASC Summary table of major-minor codes for 1:100,000-scale Digital Line Graphs APP_E.ASC Summary table of major-minor codes for 1:24,000-scale Digital Line Graphs GSMGIS.EXE The GSMGIS program REFRMDLG.EXE Program for reformatting DLG files without record delimiters INSTALLATION Copy the file GSMGIS.EXE from the release disk into a subdirectory of your choice on your fixed disk drive. PRINTING THE DOCUMENTATION FILES The files ending with the .ASC extension are all ASCII files which you can print directly. Do this by: COPY PRN where is the name of the file from the above list you wish to print. You may wish instead to import these ASCII files into a word processing program, reformat the files as desired, and then print them.
