Map Showing Geology, Oil and Gas Fields, and Geologic Provinces of the Caribbean Region
Geologic Data Files
The following datasets are available in three formats: ESRI Interchange (.e00), Shapefile (.shp), and Personal Geodatabase (.mdb). Metadata for each layer is encapsulated with each of the files in XML format. The metadata is also available separately as HTML, TEXT, and FAQ format. Use the links below to save the datasets or metadata to your computer.
Caribbean Geodatabase
Description:
1:2,500,000 scale geodatabase feature classes for Caribbean region.
This personal geodatabase contains all of the geology-related vector files associated with this publication, including: surface geology, faults, oil and gas field centerpoints, geologic provinces, and annotation layers. ArcGIS software version 8.3 and later can utilize this dataset.
Raster layers cannot be stored in a personal geodatabase, therefore the shaded relief image needs to be downloaded separately (see below).
Faults represented in this dataset were created from a single source map, therefore no faults are shown above 28 degrees north.
Annotation was created for certain map symbols during display and can be found in the Caribbean geodatabase.
The purpose of the field centerpoints dataset is to depict the generalized location and production of the oil and gas fields in the region. Centerpoints derived with permission from the Petroconsultants database.
Geologic provinces are used for allocation and prioritization of assessment information. Each province has geologic characteristics that separate them from adjacent provinces, and may be based on dominant lithologies, age of strata, and/or structural type.
Shaded relief image provided for aesthetic purposes only. No elevation or depth information is provided. The image was derived from GTOPO30 elevation data and GEBCO 1-minute bathymetry grids, which were then exported to a single image. Color gradients were applied in Adobe Photoshop before georeferencing in ESRI ArcMap 8.3.
