This readme file describes all the files that are associated with U.S. Geological Survey Open File Report 98-512. The included files and their descriptions are listed below: mils_readme.txt - This file describing all files associated with this project mils.e00 - Arc/Info export file containing MAS/MILS point coverage (61,349,242 bytes) mils.met - MILS Metadata text file (46,357 bytes) mils.hp - HPGL2 plot file that plots points in MILS Arc/Info coverage (tested on HP650C and HP755CM plotters) (1,580,465 bytes) mils.eps - EPS format plot file (9,884,892) mils.aml - Arc Macro Language (AML) file used to create plot of points using ArcPlot (1,508 bytes) importmils.aml - AML used to import arc coverages; type "&r importmils" (without the quotes) at ARC prompt. (362 bytes) milsplproj.txt - Text file used by mils.aml (611 bytes) wus_alb.e00 - Arc/Info export file used to project mils coverage for Western U.S. and set map extent in mils.aml (733,614 bytes) ak_alb.e00 - Arc/Info export file used to project mils coverage for alaska and set map extent in mils.aml (11,050,842 bytes) wus_alb.prj - Projection file used in mils.aml to project mils coverage for Western U.S. (150 bytes) ak_alb.prj - Projection file used in mils.aml to project mils coverage for Alaska (145 bytes) To use this data, put all of these files in one directory. The mils.e00, mils.hp, and mils.eps files were compressed using the Unix 'compress -fv -b16 {filename}' command (mils.e00.Z, mils.hp.Z, mils.eps.Z). The ak_alb.e00 and wus_alb.e00 were tared and then compressed (bdycover.e00.tar.Z). The remaining files were also tared and compressed (milsfiles.e00.Z) The compressed files (.Z) can be uncompressed at the Unix prompt by the command: uncompress -v {filename} The tar files can be extracted at the Unix prompt by the command: tar -xvf {filename} Use Arc/Info to import the .e00 coverages (importmils.aml will do all the importing for you). The mils.e00 coverage is in geographic projection. The other 2 coverages are in Albers projections (different parameters).
