Suppertime aboard the Research Vessel GOSNOLD is observed here by the vessel's First Mate, Sam Vincent (left), Seaman Earl "Skip" Moody (center), and Engineer Ted Seifert during a cruise to the edge of the Continental Shelf. The crew provides valuable support to the marine scientists working on board - not only in the operation of the ship, but in lending a hand with scientific instruments, winches, etc.  Since 1962, the USGS in cooperation with the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution for geologic studies along the Atlantic Continental Shelf and Slope.
