The USGS hydraulically damped gravity corer used to recover sediment in Massachusetts Bay. This instrument is designed to collect a core with minimal disturbance of material at the water-sediment interface. The cores are 10.7 cm inside diameter, 30 to 50 cm long, and collected with accompanying video of the seafloor. Typically there is clear water overlying the sediment surface. Samples have been collected three times per year at Stations #2 and #3 since 1990.
