U.S. Geological Survey Open File Report Map OFR-02-136 Preliminary Geologic Map of the Santa Barbara Coastal Plain Area, Santa Barbara County, California By Scott A. Minor, Karl S. Kellogg, Richard G. Stanley, Paul Stone, Charles L. Powell, II, Larry D. Gurrola, Amy J. Selting, and Theodore R. Brandt This geospatial database has been approved for release and publication by the Director of the USGS. Although this database has been subjected to rigorous review and is substantially complete, the USGS reserves the right to revise the data pursuant to further analysis and review. Furthermore, it is released on condition that neither the USGS nor the United States Government may be held liable for any damages resulting from its authorized or unauthorized use. This release version (1.2) is similar to the previously released versions (1.0 and 1.1), the chief difference being some revisions to the geologic mapping in the Mission Ridge-Lauro Canyon Dam area overlapping northern Santa Barbara and north of Goleta along a strip adjacent to the northern border of the map area. Also, additional fault-attitude and slip-lineation data from throughout the map area have been added to the map database. These revisions and additions resulted from new field work conducted since the last release in 2003. The database can be downloaded via the Web from http://pubs.usgs.gov/of/2002/ofr-02-0136/downloads/. ArcInfo export files and ArcView shapefiles may be extracted from a gzip-compressed tar file (ofr-02-136.tar.gz)or zip-compressed file (ofr-02-136.zip). In addition, an Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) file (ofr-02-136_print.pdf) may be downloaded, from which a paper copy may be printed. The database contact is: Scott A. Minor (303) 236-0303 sminor@usgs.gov U.S. Geological Survey Box 25046, Mail Stop 980 Denver, CO 80225 The data were compiled from published geologic mapping and field observation. One review, by Robert Bohannon of USGS, was performed. This geospatial database consists of ArcInfo export files (.e00) and ArcView shapefiles contained in a gzipped tar archive or zip archive. An import aml file is included which will convert export files to coverages when executed at the "Arc" prompt. Both compressed archive files contain both types of geospatial database files. See the list below. Please refer to the file ofr-02-136 for detailed metadata documentation for this geospatial database.
