Fourth Layer of Lead Bricks for Gamma-Ray Castle

(as viewed from above with front of castle at bottom)

Fourth Layer

Fourth layer of bricks (yellow) is laid out so that there is an 8" wide opening for sample holder and a 16" by 16" opening which forms the interior of the castle.  Requires two 6" long and four 4" long bricks in addition to 19 standard-sized bricks.  The sample holder is made from a 5/16" sheet of aluminum and slides in and out to allow positioning of a sample container (diameter = 6 inches) directly beneath the detector. Click here to see Figure 4.  A dolly on wheels carrying lead bricks rolls against castle to seal opening.  Click here to see Figure 3.

NOTE:  A 3/8" thick aluminum plate is placed on top of the fourth layer. The plate is 32" by 32" in size and has a 16" by 16" square cut out of its center.
