Seismic-Reflection:

The more than 410 km of seismic-reflection data were acquired with a Knudsen Chirp subbottom profiling system with a central frequency of 3.5 kHz. These data were logged to a PC laptop running Knudsen acquisition software. This particular system uses range, as opposed to fire-rate, to describe the data acquisition. The ranges used on this cruise were 50m, and 100m. This system is further described on the USGS Woods Hole Science Center SeaFloor Mapping web page. After the cruise, these seismic data were processed with SIOSEIS seismic processing software to rectify the data and convert it to "true" Chirp data containing instantaneous amplitude data. In addition, shot numbers for each file were renumbered to start at 1. These processed SEG-Y files were then run through Seismic Unix to generate images of each seismic-reflection profile.

The following three images indicate the tracklines along which seismic-reflection data were collected. The images progress from north to south. Clicking on any image will open a larger image of the same area.

For convenience, downsampled JPEG images are available below for viewing the data. Clicking on the thumbnail image of the seismic-reflection profile will link to a larger image of the seismic data for that particular file in a separate window. In each of the seismic profiles, the units of the x-axis are shot points, the y-axis is two-way travel time in milliseconds. The JPEG images can be downloaded in a variety of ways. To acquire an individual image, click on the thumbnail image which will link to a larger image. In Internet Explorer, right click on this image and select "Save image as...". The individual images can also be copied from the CD directly from the data/seisimages directory. To acquire a WinZip file of all the seismic images, go to the seismic section of the Metadata/Data Catalog page and save the "zipped" file to a preferred location and uncompress it.

What appears to be missing or skipped line numbers is a result of navigation or instrument difficulties during which no data was collected.
