Young Publication_Date: 2006 Title: Conodont and radiolarian data from the De Long Mountains quadrangle and adjacent areas, Alaska Edition: version 1.0 Geospatial_Data_Presentation_Form: map Series_Information: Series_Name: U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report Issue_Identification: USGS OFR XX-XXX Publication_Information: Publication_Place: Publisher: U.S. Geological Survey Online_Linkage: Description: Abstract: These data represent location information for a comprehensive set of fossil samples from the westernmost Brooks Range of northern Alaska. The fossils — mostly conodonts and some radiolarians — tightly constrain the age of many stratigraphic units of Devonian through Triassic age exposed within the study area and provide additional data on the depositional environments and thermal history of these rocks. The accompanying report presents the biostratigraphic data for the samples. Purpose: Microfossils from the western Brooks Range were analyzed in support of projects studying northern Alaska basins and the Red Dog zinc/lead deposit. Supplemental_Information: The fossil collections were gathered during studies of the Red Dog massive sulfide deposit in 1998-2004, and in support of regional mapping projects in 1979, 1981, 1983, and 1997-98. The samples were all examined (or re-examined) from 1997 through 2004. Locations at which more than one sample exists have multiple point features at those coordinates. Positional_Accuracy: Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy: Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report: Sample locations were initially plotted using coordinates recorded during the sampling activities. Estimated coordinates of proprietary drill holes were provided by the staff at Red Dog. All points were plotted on 1:250,000 topographic background, and in the vicinity of the Red Dog Mine and Anarraaq Prospect, drill hole and sample locations were plotted on 1:63,360 topographic background. Adjustments were made visually based on the authors' field knowledge of sample and drill hole locations, so that locations should be true to the level of detail on the topographic sheets (no greater than +/- 500 meters for the small scale data, and no greater than +/- 100 meters for the inset maps).
