Prior to 1965 the regional geology was known only from reconnaissance surveys. Two important components of this effort are an evaluation of (1) the seismic risk hazard and (2) the mineral resource potential. Purpose: This ARC/INFO dataset was developed to provide a geologic map GIS database of the Hebgen Lake quadrangle for use in spatial analysis by a variety of users. Mike Duncan, USGS Denver, digitized previous published paper maps. Paul Thale and Ken Sandau, Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology, digitized the northwest quarter of the Hebgen Lake quadrangle. The pieces were combined by MBMG and released as O'Neill and Christiansen (2002) and as an Arc/Info database. Greg Green, USGS Denver, checked the the line work and polygons against the original maps. The ARC/INFO database was further edited by Green to correct deviations from published sources. The digital database was quality checked by Alex Donatich, USGS Denver. The layout of the finished paper map was prepared by Alex Donatich and checked by Mike O'Neill.
