Purpose: This digital database depicts distribution of geologic materials and structures at 1:100,000-scale. The publication, which also includes an explanatory pamphlet, is intended to provide geologic information for the regional study of materials properties, earthquake shaking, landslide potential, mineral hazards, mineral and energy resources, seismic velocity, and earthquake faults. In addition, the pamphlet contains new information and interpretations about Neogene geologic history and framework. The scale of this report does not provide sufficient detail for site development purposes. In addition, this map does not take the place of fault-rupture hazard zones designated by the California State Geologist. Similarly, the database cannot be substituted for comprehensive maps that systematically identify and classify landslide hazards. Supplemental_Information: This digital database was compiled from new and previous mapping. Refer to the pamphlet and index of geologic mapping sources inset on the map for previous mapping citations. This geodatabase includes the following: Feature classes: geologic and geomorphic lines (ltype) faults and other lines (ltype) geologic unit polygons (ptype) Annotation feature classes: Relationship classes: Time_Period_of_Content: Time_Period_Information: Range_of_Dates/Times: Beginning_Date: 2001 Ending_Date: 2009 Currentness_Reference: publication date Status: Progress: Complete Maintenance_and_Update_Frequency: None planned Spatial_Domain: Bounding_Coordinates: West_Bounding_Coordinate: -117.00 East_Bounding_Coordinate: -118.25 North_Bounding_Coordinate: 36.30 South_Bounding_Coordinate: 36.00 Keywords: Theme: Theme_Keyword_Thesaurus: surficial deposits Theme_Keyword: geology Theme_Keyword: geologic map Place: Place_Keyword_Thesaurus: none Place_Keyword: United States of America Place_Keyword: California Place_Keyword: Inyo County Place_Keyword: Coso Mountains Place_Keyword: Panamint Valley Place_Keyword: Owens Valley Access_Constraints: None Use_Constraints: Not for use at scales greater than 1:100,000. Native_Data_Set_Environment: Microsoft Windows XP Version 5.1 (Build 2600) Service Pack 2; ESRI ArcCatalog 9.2.5.1450 Data_Quality_Information: Attribute_Accuracy: Attribute_Accuracy_Report: Geologic features in this geodatabase were symbolized based on attributes and plotted at 1:100,000-scale, then visually reviewed for accuracy by the author. Logical_Consistency_Report: This geodatabase has been reviewed and is considered to have no errors. All features have attributes. Each line segment has a length and directionality that is appropriate for the geologic feature it depicts. No sliver polygons were noted. Completeness_Report: This geodatabase is considered complete. All geologic features depicted on the source maps were digitized and attributed. Positional_Accuracy: Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy: Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report: Most of the geologic features in this database are considered to be accurately located and within +/- 10 meters of their actual location on the 1:100,000-scale topographic base maps. Accuracy diminishes in areas where topography is either flat or very steep. The 1:100,000 topographic maps and corresponding Digital Raster Graphics (DRGs) used as the primary mapping base for this project were assumed to meet the National Map Accuracy Standard of +/- 12 meters. The scanned source maps, which were georeferenced to the DRG's, all had registration errors of less than +/- 12 meters, and most had errors of less than +/- 5 meters. Note: Refer to metadata for each feature class for detailed information about the positional accuracy of features. Lineage: Process_Step: Process_Description: Mapping was accomplished using a combination of field investigations, aerial photographs DOQ's, SPOT imagery, NAIP imagery, new and existing geologic data were compiled on a 1:100,000-scale mylar topographic base map which was scanned and saved in TIF format. The TIF files were georeferenced in ArcMap to corresponding 1:100,000-scale DRGs, using a 1st-order polynomial transformation and then used as a guide from which to heads-up digitize geologic data.
