The database delineates map units identified by general age and lithology loosely following the stratigraphic nomenclature of the U.S. Geological Survey. The Tuba City quadrangle encompasses approximately 5,018 sq. km (1,920 sq. mi) within Coconino County, northern Arizona. The map area is bounded by 111° to 112° W, and 36° to 36°30' N. Version 1.1, March, 2014 - Minor edits were made to the geodatabase to correct geology and facilitate edgematch with adjacent USGS maps. - The database was upgraded from ArcGIS 9.3 to ArcGIS 10.2. - Changes made to the geodatabase are not reflected in the pamphlet or on map sheet PDFs. Purpose: The map and accompanying pamphlet provide information on the geologic structure and stratigraphy of the area and are intended to be of use both in the scientific community and within the context of regional resource managment activities. Supplemental_Information: Although the nominal scale of a USGS 30' x 60' topographic quadrangle is 1:100,000, we present the geologic map of the Tuba City quadrangle in two panels at 1:50,000-scale in order to preserve features that were mapped and compiled at 1:24,000 scale, and are too detailed to show at 1:100,000 scale. For plotting purposes and readability, we present the geologic map as west (sheet 1) and east (sheet 2) panels, each consisting of sixteen 7.5' quadrangles. The accompanying style file (tubacity100k.style) contains the symbols applied to each feature class in ArcMap to create the cartographic map. The structure of this geodatabase and its associated feature classes, as well as the feature class naming conventions, loosely follows The National Park Service Geologic Resources Inventory Geology-GIS Geodatabase Data Model (V. 2.1), which can be found at: http://science.nature.nps.gov/im/inventory/geology/docs/gri_gdb_ggdm_v2dot1.pdf The geodatabase includes the following: structure data (tubaatd) folds (tubafld) geologic contacts and faults (tubaglg_arc) geologic unit polygons (tubaglg_poly24k) geologic unit labels (tubaglg_pt) fractures (tubagln) karst features (tubakar) mines (tubamin) volcanic vents (tubavpf) Annotation feature classes: dip and fault offset annotation (tubaatdAnno) geologic unit annotation (tubaglg_ptAnno) Relationship classes: tubaatdAnno - links tubaatd to tubaatdAnno tubaglg_ptAnno - links tubaglg_pt to tubaglg_ptAnno Related tables: list of map units (tuba_lmu) Time_Period_of_Content: Time_Period_Information: Range_of_Dates/Times: Beginning_Date: 2006 Ending_Date: 2012 Currentness_Reference: publication date Status: Progress: Complete Maintenance_and_Update_Frequency: None planned Spatial_Domain: Bounding_Coordinates: West_Bounding_Coordinate: -112.0 East_Bounding_Coordinate: -111.0 North_Bounding_Coordinate: 36.5 South_Bounding_Coordinate: 36.0 Keywords: Theme: Theme_Keyword_Thesaurus: AGI Glossary of Geology Theme_Keyword: geologic map Theme_Keyword: geology Place: Place_Keyword_Thesaurus: Board of Geographic Names Place_Keyword: Tuba City Place_Keyword: Colorado Plateau Place_Keyword: Coconino County Place_Keyword: Arizona Place_Keyword: USA Place_Keyword: Navajo Nation Place_Keyword: Hopi Tribe Access_Constraints: none Use_Constraints: Not for use at scales greater than 1:24,000. Native_Data_Set_Environment: ESRI ArcGIS 10.2, Personal Geodatabase Data_Quality_Information: Attribute_Accuracy: Attribute_Accuracy_Report: Geologic features in this geodatabase were symbolized based on attributes and plotted at 1:24,000 scale, then visually reviewed for accuracy by the authors. Logical_Consistency_Report: This geodatabase has been reviewed and is considered to be error-free. All features have attributes. Each line segment has a length and directionality that is appropriate for the geologic feature it depicts. No sliver polygons are present. Completeness_Report: This geodatabase is considered complete. All geologic features depicted on the source maps were digitized and attributed. Positional_Accuracy: Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy: Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report: Most of the geologic features in this database are considered to be accurately located and within +/- 5 meters of their actual location on the 1:24,000 scale topographic base maps. Accuracy diminishes in areas where topography is either flat or very steep. The 1:24,000 topographic maps and corresponding Digital Raster Graphics (DRGs) used as the primary mapping base for this project were assumed to meet the National Map Accuracy Standard of +/- 12 meters. The scanned source maps, which were georeferenced to the DRG's, all had registration errors of less than +/- 12 meters, and most had errors of less than +/- 5 meters. Note: Refer to metadata for each feature class for detailed information about the positional accuracy of features. Lineage: Process_Step: Process_Description: Mapping was accomplished using a combination of field investigations and aerial photographs. New and existing geologic data were compiled on 1:24,000-scale paper topographic base maps which were scanned and saved in TIF format. The TIF files were georeferenced in ArcMap to corresponding 1:24,000-scale DRGs, using a 1st-order polynomial transformation and then used as a guide from which to heads-up digitize geologic data.
