The digital geologic map was created from the orginal linework used to prepare the published paper Geologic Map of Arkansas. Consequently, this geologic map database can be queried in many ways to produce a variety of geologic maps. The analog source of data was Haley, B.R.; assisted by Glick, E.E., Bush, W.V., Clardy, B.F., Stone, C.G., Woodward, M.B., and Zachry, D.L., 1993, Geologic Map of Arkansas: U.S. Geol. Survey, Special Geologic Map, scale 1:500,000. Purpose: This dataset was developed to provide a geologic map GIS database of the State Map of Arkansas for use in spatial analysis by a variety of users. However I believe that these were created by Rothtek Co. under the direction of Jim Queen of the USGS, Reston. These are the scribe sheets (or copies) used to print the 1993 paper verion of the Geology of Arkansas. These digital scanned scribe were placed on the greenwood ftp server. Greg Green of the USGS Denver, attributed the sheets in Arc/Info. The normal faults and igneous rocks scribe sheets were not found and these were digitized by hand by Green from a liibrary copy. The map coverages are (1) contact, thrust, igneous, and fault, and (2) the type coverage. The type coverage contains vectors that are in the shape of words, graphics and symbols. Althought the scanned image was vectorized the text is easly readable. The coorelation diagram was topologically structrured and attributed as coverage LEGEND1. Consequently the boxes were color filled with the coresponding color from the geologic map. LEGEND2, CULTURE AND DRAINAGE coverages were not attributed. They are supplied as registered graphical background images.
