This policy is the result of an effort to create a basic naming structure for others to follow on NatWeb's 'pubs.usgs.gov' server.

These guidelines will help webmasters adhere to maintaining a logical, consistent, easy-to-navigate, uniform structure.
Authors and editors can use this directory structure policy to understand what the URL will be for the report about to go online.
The way the structure is created will be the way the URL will appear to our internet users.
New series definitions and series name changes policy and definitions are in Survey Manual chapter 1100.3
Appendix A of chapter 1100.3 contains additional information about each current series [PDF]
These should agree with the definitions defined here.
