SLAMMER Seismic LAndslide Movement Modeled using Earthquake Records PROGRAM DESCRIPTION SLAMMER is designed to facilitate conducting sliding-block analysis (also called permanent-displacement analysis) of slopes in order to estimate slope behavior during earthquakes. The program allows selection from among more than 2,100 strong-motion records from 28 earthquakes and allows users to add their own records to the collection. Any number of earthquake records can be selected using a search interface that selects records based on desired properties. Sliding-block analyses, using any combination of rigid-block (Newmark), decoupled, and fully coupled methods, are then conducted on the selected group of records, and results are compiled in both graphical and tabular form. Simplified methods for conducting each type of analysis are also included. Before using this program, users should be familiar with methods of sliding-block analysis, including the basic sliding-block model, the underlying model assumptions, situations where various methods should and should not be applied, and limitations and weaknesses of the models. A User Guide is available from within the program that includes instructions on using the program as well as guidelines and recommendations for supplying model parameters. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: 1. The program requires 225 MB of storage space on a hard drive. 2. The program was compiled in Java version 7 and should run on Windows, Apple, and Linux operating systems. 3. THE INSTALLER WILL ONLY LAUNCH ON MACHINES RUNNING JAVA 7 OR LATER. Go to http://www.java.com to download the most recent version of Java. 4. Click (or double-click) on “SLAMMER Install JAR” to download the installation file. 5. Click (or double-click) on the downloaded installation file (slammerinstall) to launch the installer. 6. Follow the prompts in the script to complete installation. 7. To launch the program, go to the “programs” folder within the installation folder. Click (or double-click) on “slammer.” 8. For convenience, a desktop shortcut to “slammer” can be created.
