LOCATION.-- Lat 39°49'38", long 88°57'21" (NAD of 1927), in SE1/4NE1/4 sec.22, T.16 N., R.2 E., hydrologic unit 07130006, on right bank at north end of Lake Decatur Dam at Decatur, 300 ft downstream from bridge on U.S. Highway 51 and 800 ft upstream from Illinois Central Railroad bridge, and at mile 130.4.

 

DRAINAGE AREA.-- 906 mi2.

 

PERIOD OF RECORD.--

SURFACE-WATER DISCHARGE AND STAGE

 

DISCHARGE: December 1948 to September 1951.

 

GAGE.-- Wire-weight gage read twice daily. Datum of gage is 607.00 ft above NGVD of 1929 (606.74 ft NAVD 1988).

 

REMARKS.-- Records generally good except those below 100 cfs and those for periods of ice effect or indefinite stage-discharge relation, which are fair. Diversion above station from Lake Decatur for municipal supply of Decatur.

 

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD.--

SURFACE-WATER DISCHARGE AND STAGE: Maximum discharge, 14,400 ft3/s, Feb. 22, 1951, gage height, 6.97 ft; minimum discharge, 1 ft3/s, several days in September each year.

 

EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD.--

SURFACE-WATER DISCHARGE AND STAGE: Flood of May 18 or 19, 1943 reached a discharge of 22,000 ft3/s, gage height, 9.1 ft, by computation of flow over dam.
