Preface
The authors would like to acknowledge the many individuals
who assisted in the development and review of the report, data sets,
and graphics published on the CD-ROMs. We thank the technical
reviewers Janice Ward, William Battaglin, Richard Coupe, and Randy
Parker. Their recommendations greatly improved the organization
and content of the report and CD-ROM data bases. We especially
thank Richard Coupe for providing additional reviews of preliminary
versions of the CD-ROMs and Janice Ward for providing
administrative guidance during the development of the CD-ROMs.
We thank Alan Lumb for administrative support that allowed Larry
Briel to contribute his valuable data management skills to the
project. We thank John Briggs and Timothy Miller for assistance in
obtaining information on historical network operations. Thanks to
Richard Smith and Gregory Schwarz for discussions and valued input
on various water-quality and quality-assurance topics. Steve Glodt
and Thomas Maloney of the National Water Quality Laboratory in
Denver, Colorado and Herman Feltz and Bernard Malo provided
important information on laboratory analytical methods used
currently and historically by the USGS. Donald Dolnack performed
the many daily streamflow retrievals from the USGS centralized data
base, and Jerry Casile patiently retrieved water-quality data from
each of the USGS District computers. Linda Geiger assisted in
reviewing preliminary versions of the CD-ROMs. We thank Patricia
Greene for the layout of the CD-ROM cover and inserts. Also, we
thank Frances Buchanan for the production of final versions of the
illustrations, Marie Nofs of the National Water Quality Assessment
Program for her assistance in scanning water-quality memoranda
into digital form, Dawn Fuller for her assistance in editing text and
graphical data files, and Sharon Cline and Joyce Soloman for technical
assistance with graphical software.
