- Description:
-
- Abstract:
-
Reliability grids were created for 47 coal beds within the Powder River Basin, Montana and Wyoming. The grids were produced as part of the work performed by the U.S. Geological Survey's U.S. Coal Resource and Reserves Assessment Project. Each reliability grid portrays the confidence of the thickness of the coal bed out to certain distances.
- Purpose:
-
The reliability grids were created to serve as a reference for a measure of confidence of the thickness of the coal bed they are attached to.

Drill hole information for well locations obtained from the USGS, the Wyoming State Geological Survey, and the Wyoming Oil and Gas Conservation Commission were used to construct a database for the Powder River Basin. This database was imported into the StratiFact computer program to correlate the coal beds within the Powder River Basin. Once correlated, the coal bed information from StratiFact was imported into the PC\Cores geologic modeling program. ArcMap was used to produce reliability grids within the project extent of the Powder River Basin. The reliability grids were produced with a cell size of 30 meters for each coal bed.
