Revision History for U.S. Geological Survey Data Series 1052 By John D. Horton, Carma A. San Juan, and Douglas B. Stoeser The State Geologic Map Compilation (SGMC) Geodatabase of the Conterminous United States ----------------------------------------------------- Posted online June 30, 2017 ----------------------------------------------------- Revised and reposted August 18, 2017 Minor changes were made to the text to reflect the addition of spatially corrected data (cited below) for the state of California that have been updated in the Data Release which references this report. Jennings, C.W., with modifications by Gutierrez, C., Bryant, W., Saucedo, G., and Wills, C., 2010, Geologic map of California, Version 2.0 (California Geological Survey 150th Anniversary Edition), Department of Conservation, California Geological Survey: California Geologic Data Map Series, GDM No. 2, scale 1:750,000, accessed July 2017 at ftp://ftp.consrv.ca.gov/pub/dmg/rgmp/Published_GIS_Data/GDM_002_GMC_750k_v2/GDM_002_GMC_750k_v2_GIS.zip. Specifically, the following changes were made: Page 1 - Abstract, in the following sentence "six States" was changed to "seven States:" The SGMC geodatabase also contains updated data for seven States and seven entirely new State geologic maps that have been added since the preliminary databases were published. Page 1 - Introduction, third paragraph, information on California was added to the following sentence: The SGMC also incorporates new supplemental data for the States of California—2010 (updated georeferencing of geology and faults, and new point features), Indiana—2011 (minor geology updates), New Jersey—2009 (updated faults), New Mexico—2003 (age updates, new volcanic mapping, new structures), and North Carolina—2007 (new geology polygons, faults, and dikes). Page 3 - In the last sentence under Feature Classes and SGMC_Points, "California" was added to the list of States: Only available for California, Colorado, Missouri, New Mexico, Nevada, Vermont, and Wyoming. Page 12 - The Lithology Ranking section has been rewritten for better clarity and replaced in its entirety to emphasize the qualitative approach the SGMC used to rank lithologies and to better explain why ranking changes were made in order to create a more consistent conterminous dataset. Page 18 - Appendix 1, the entry for California was changed from California (CA)—scale 1:750,000 Jennings, C.W., Strand, R.G., Rogers, T.H., Boylan, R.T., Moar, R.R., and Switzer, R.A., 1977, Geologic map of California: California Division of Mines and Geology Geologic Data Map 2, scale 1:750,000.
