Abstract:
This spatial layer contains township, range, and section boundaries from the public land survey system for the upper Washita River basin in southwestern Oklahoma. This data set was created by appending and editing U.S. Geological Survey Digital Line Graph (DLG) data sets based on 100,000-scale topographic quadrangles.
Purpose:
To provide land survey information for users working in the upper Washita River basin.

The spatial layer "Huc8" of the upper Washita River basin was used to select polygons from the 1:100,000-scale layer of the public land survey system for Oklahoma. The selected polygons were saved as a shapefile, imported into the geodatabase, and metadata written.

Each polygon has eight attributes. The first attribute MERIDIAN, contains the number 11 for surveys based on the Cimarron Meridian (Oklahoma panhandle), or the number 17 for surveys based on the Indian Meridian, covering the remainder of Oklahoma. The second attribute, TOWNSHIP, contains the township number. The third attribute, NS, contains the letter N or S to show whether the township is north or south of the baseline. The fourth attribute, RANGE, contains the range number. The fifth attribute, EW, contains the letter E or W to show if the range is east or west of the meridian. The sixth attribute, SECTION, contains the section number. MERIDIAN, TOWNSHIP, RANGE, and SECTION values of 99 are used for void areas not included in the public land survey system. The seventh attribute contains the MERIDAN, TOWNSHIP, RANGE, and SECTION numbers. The eighth attribute contains the MERIDAN, TOWNSHIP, and RANGE numbers.
