This tabular file contains U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) parameter code and method code definitions for water-quality constituents in the tabular files 'USGS_gw_wq', 'USGS_lake_wq', 'USGS_other_wq', and 'USGS_stream_wq'.

Water-quality data retrieved from the USGS National Water Information System (NWIS) database are associated with parameter codes. This file provides definitions for the parameter codes describing the water-qualtiy constituents measued in ground-water, suface-water, lake, and spring samples.

Water-quality data retreived from the USGS NWIS database also may have associated method codes. This file provides definitions for the method codes describing the analytical method used to measure constituents in ground-water, surface-water, lake, and spring samples.

The attributes 'PCODE' and 'MCODE' can be used to relate associated files.
