To access the ESRI ArcReader application:


Install ArcReader if not previously installed.

Download and uncompress the zip archive (http://pubs.usgs.gov/ds/302/DS302_ArcReaderMap.zip).  

Launch ArcReader from the Windows start menu and choose OPEN from the FILE menu.  Navigate to \USGSDS302\pmf and launch the map document USGSDS302.pmf by double clicking the file name.

The application can best be viewed on monitors with screen resolution set to 1280 by 1024 pixels.

System requirements (information from ESRI accessed July 31, 2007 at http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis/arcreader/about/sys-reqs.html:

ArcReader can run in a variety of platforms.  See http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis/arcreader/about/sys-reqs.html for specific information.  

For ArcReader 9.2 on PC-Intel Windows XP Professional Edition the following hardware configuration is recommended:

CPU speed: 1.5 GHz or higher
Processor: Intel Pentium or Intel Xeon
Memory/RAM: 256 MB minimum, 512 MB recommended for 2D map documents
Screen Resolution: 1024X768 recommended or higher
Display properties: Greater than 256 color depth
Swap space: determined by the operating system, 500MB minimum
Disk space: 410 MB
Disk Space Requirements:
In addition, up to 50 MB of disk space maybe needed in the Windows System directory(typically C:\Windows\System32). You can view the disk space requirement for each of the 9.2 components in the Setup program.

ArcReader will create cache files when used; additional disk space may be required.

Internet Explorer 6.0/7.0 Requirement:
Some features of ArcReader require a minimum installation of Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 6.0 or 7.0. If you do not have an installation of Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 6.0/7.0, you must obtain and install it prior to installing ArcReader.
