base material
Using the 2000 multibeam data as basemaps, a camera sled was towed behind the NPS RV Neuston and collected over 23 line kilometers of regular and high-definition video. For scale, paired lasers were associated with each video camera and were spaced 16 cm apart. The video cameras had a real-time feed up to the R/V Neuston where the video could be observed as well as recorded onto miniDV tapes. From these video, real-time observations such as presence or absence of the bryophyte mat, as well as the lake floor composition (rock, sediment) were recorded every minute into a navigational system (YoNav). Each observation was stamped with a time and a geographic coordinate based on differential GPS. The observations were converted into an ESRI shapefile.
