ArcGIS Project Read-Me The map documents and shapefiles used to create the trackline maps provided on this disc can be found in the 92ER2_92ER4.zip file located in the ARC subfolder of the SOFTWARE folder located at the top level of the disc. The map documents were created with ESRI ArcGIS 9.2 software. Shapefiles may also be viewed with other versions of ArcView, ArcGIS, or public domain software ArcExplorer (http://www.esri.com/software/arcexplorer/index.html). The map documents (.mxd) were named 92ER2_92ER4_Study Area, 92ER2_92ER4, 92ER2_Detail, 92ER2_Map 1, 92ER2_Map 2, 92ER2_Map 3, 92ER4_Detail, 92ER4_Map A, and 92ER4_Map B. Detail maps display trackline navigation, and the inset maps also display points for start of line, start of segment, and annotated navigation shots (positions logged by the onboard navigation system during the cruise.) The list below describes the shapefiles provided with the ArcGIS project. Metadata are available as XML documents (used by ArcCatalog). 92ER2 and 92ER4_FIRST: point layer of the start of 92ER2 and 92ER4 tracklines. 92ER2 and 92ER4_LINES: line layer of 92ER2 and 92ER4 tracklines. 92ER2 and 92ER4_POINTS: point layer of 92ER2 and 92ER4 annotated navigation shots. 92ER2 and 92ER4_SEGMENT: point layer of the start of 92ER2 and 92ER4 trackline segments. BASEMAPS.usa_bathy_gulfmexico: line layer of contour intervals for Northern Gulf of Mexico and Northern Bahamas bathymetry data. The contour interval is 100-meters with supplemental 20-meter contours on the continental shelf. Originated by NOAA, date unknown. Gulf Coast Towns: point locations for selected cities in States bordering the Gulf of Mexico. Derived from usa_cities_100k point file originated by ESRI, 2000. Gulf_States_Shoreline: polygon layer of the Gulf States shoreline derived from a 1:70,000 vector coastline map of the United States. Originated by NOAA, 1994.
