Overview_Description:
Entity_and_Attribute_Overview:
For USGS-defined attributes:
Site_ID = The Site ID for ground-water sites is a 15-digit identification number assigned to the site, and contains no blanks or alphabetic characters. Although the site identification number is formed initially from the latitude and longitude of a point believed to represent the location of the site followed by a 2-digit sequence number, the Site ID is an identifier and not a locator. The first six digits of the Site ID are the value of latitude, the 7th through 13th digits are the value of longitude, and the 14th and 15th digits are sequence numbers used to distinguish between sites at the same location.
Station_Nm = The station name for ground-water sites is the same as the local number. The local number for ground-water sites includes the township and range followed by the section and a series of letters that designate the quarter-section subdivisions, from the largest to the smallest, followed by a site sequence number. The order of the quarter-section subdivisions differ from that used by the Bureau of Land Management and the public-land survey. The public-land survey uses a series of coordinate directions and a fraction to designate the quarter-section subdivisions listed from smallest to largest followed by the section, township, and range. For example, the same 10-acre plot would be described by using the public land survey as NW1/4 SW1/4 NE1/4 Sec.5 T2S R3E and described by using the USGS Local_No as 02S-03E-05 ACB. A direct comparison between the quarter-section subdivisions for the public-land survey and the USGS Local_No is that A=NE, B=NW, C=SW, and D=SE.
Coord_acy = Coordinate accuracy is the accuracy of the latitude and longitude coordinates. For coordinate accuracy:
H = Accurate to +/- .01 second (differentially corrected GPS) 1 = Accurate to +/- .1 second (differentially corrected GPS) 5 = Accurate to +/- .5 second (Precise Positioning Service (PLGR/PPS GPS)) S = Accurate to +/- 1 second R = Accurate to +/- 3 seconds (Standard Positioning Service (SPS GPS)) F = Accurate to +/- 5 seconds T = Accurate to +/- 10 seconds M = Accurate to +/- 1 minute U = Unknown
Alt_acy = Accuracy of the altitude in terms of the possible error in feet. An accuracy of +/- 0.1 foot would be entered as ".1". Many altitudes are interpolated from the contours on topographic maps; accuracies determined in this way are generally entered as one-half of the contour interval.
Construct_ = Date of first construction of the well or site. If the date of construction was not available, then the earliest date that data was available for the site was entered or left blank.
Inventory_ = Date site was first inventoried in the USGS database. Site_Type = W for a well or X for a test hole not completed as a well.
Aqfr_Cd = An eight-character code identifying the primary aquifer unit from which the water was obtained.
Well_Depth = Depth of the finished well, in feet below land surface. The depth of the well is the greatest depth to which the well could be sounded; if measurement was not practical, then the reported depth at which the well was finished was entered.
Hole_Depth = The total depth to which the well was drilled, in feet below land surface, even though the well may have been plugged back in when completing the well.
