****README/CAUTION****

If you have a full version of ESRI ArcMAP 9.3.1 on your computer you cannot install ArcReader 10. The older version of ArcReader 9.3.1 must be used. If you do not have any ESRI products on your computer you can use the latest version ArcReader10. 

1. Go to this web site, http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis/arcreader/download.html and download ArcReader 10 for Windows or ArcReader 9.3.1 for Windows and follow the instruction for installation.

2. When ArcReader is open go to file open and navigate to the folder named “Coal Database for Cook Inlet and North Slope, Alaska”. Then open the folder “ArcReader10 or ArcReader9.3.1 depending on the version you installed. Open the folder named pmf and click on the application file named “Alaska Coal Database”.  This will start the application ArcReader. 

3. ArcReader has a very well-written help document under the Help menu. Data for individual data points can be viewed by clicking on the “I” tool and then clicking on the data point location. 


4. To view the files for this project navigate to: “Coal Database for Cook Inlet and North Slope, Alaska”. The folder contains the geodatabase or ESRI shapefiles as well as the metadata documentation. The metadata is either a html file, txt file or an xml document. By clicking on either one of these files Microsoft windows will automatically open the appropriate program for viewing. Also provided are a Microsoft Access database and a text file version of the database.
