Purpose: This online study contains Geographic Information Systems (GIS) layer files of maps, figures, and coal data for the Cook Inlet and North Slope, Alaska. This data base is a compilation of non-confidential published and unpublished coal data in Alaska. Although coal occurs in isolated areas throughout Alaska, the compiled areas for this study are restricted to the Cook Inlet and North Slope coal provinces. Data includes oil and gas well and coal core geophysical logs, such as density, gamma, and resistivity; seismic shot hole lithology descriptions; measured sections; and isolated coal outcrops. Not all data tables contain a complete array of data; only available data is included in the data tables. Data tables can contain the following: 1) data source, 2) longitude and latitude, 3) elevation, lithologic and thickness of unit, and 4) depth to lithologic unit. Oil and gas records can include geophysical logs such as density, gamma, and resistivity. The polygon for the study area was digitized based on geological contacts of the appropriate age, geologic deducing and the extent/distribution of the wells. The point file (petroleum wells, drill holes and stratigraphic data) all came from many sources that were mostly complete with some exceptions. The drill holes and stratigraphic data needed elevations and needed the depths of the stratigraphy added in. This was accomplished by manually adding in the data to the table based on what was in the publication.
