Once downloaded, the compressed file can be uncompressed to recover the ARC/INFO export file by programs (such as gzip) that are compatible with the Lempel-Ziv compression algorithm. Gzip is available from the Free Software Foundation's Project GNU, is available for several different computer operating systems, and can be downloaded from several sites on the Internet. The gzip command to uncompress the files is "gzip -d -c prefix.gz > prefix.e00", where "prefix" is the part of the file name before the period and "e00" is the letter e followed by 2 zeros. The ARC/INFO command to convert the uncompressed export file to an ARC/INFO coverage is "import cover prefix.eoo out_name", where out_name is the name for the output coverage.
