HOW TO COLLECT OIL-LIKE FILMS
Equipment
Microscope slide, magic marker or diamond scribe, something to put slide
in (slide box, centrifuge tube, or slide mailer)
The oily-looking film can be lifted off with a microscope slide
as is shown here. Sample was taken in an Anacostia River tributary at Ft.
Dupont Park, D.C.
Procedure
1. Write place code, number, and date on back of slide.
2. Slip microscope slide under the film and lift film out.
3. Let water run off one edge of slide.
4. Put dry or partly dry slide into the slide box.
