00readme.txt -- UNIX ASCII file that describes the digital data for U.S. Geological Survey Miscellaneous Investigations Series Map I-1109, 8/15/02, pd Drewes, Harald, Fields, R.A., Hirschberg, D.M., and Bolm, K.S., 2002, Spatial digital database for the tectonic map of southeast Arizona: U.S. Geological Survey Miscellaneous Investigations Series Map I-1109, digital database, version 2.0, 38 p., 2 digital map sheets, scale 1:125,000 (received Director's approval April 19, 2002). This report describes the contents of a digital data set which consists of ArcInfo exchange-format and associated text files. A page-sized, color version of the digital geologic map is included in the report. Adobe Acrobat PDF files for printing paper copies of the maps at a scale of 1:125,000 are also included in addition to grayscale JPGs of the original paper maps by Drewes (1980). The database is available on the World Wide Web at http://pubs.usgs.gov/imap/i1109. Requirements: A networked computer system is required to copy the files from the host computer across the Internet. A geographic information system (GIS) capable of importing ArcInfo exchange-format files is required for access to the digital files. The map files are stored in Adobe portable document file format (i1109_e.pdf and i1109_w.pdf). The digital data files are in UNIX ASCII format. *************************************************** Explanation of digital data files: The GIS for version 2.0 of the "Spatial digital database for the tectonic map of southeast Arizona" is available as the UNIX compressed TAR file, i1109.tar.Z, which includes the report text (i1109.pdf) in an Adobe portable document format. To setup the digital database in an UNIX environment, create a new workspace in Arc, change directories to the new workspace, and download the i1109.tar.Z file to your new workspace. Use the command 'uncompress -v i1109.tar.Z' to uncompress the file. Then use the command 'tar -xvf i1109.tar' to extract the files from the TAR file. And finally, to import the ArcInfo exchange-format files (*e00) into your workspace, start ArcInfo on your workstation and enter '&run import.aml' at the Arc prompt. Your working directory should contain the following files: 00readme.txt - this readme file in UNIX ASCII format 0readme.txt - this readme file in DOS ASCII format i1109.pdf - report text in Adobe Acrobat PDF format. import.aml - ArcInfo program to import ArcInfo interchange-format files into the user's workspace. ArcInfo exchange-format files (*.e00) and metadata include: i1109.e00 - principal line and polygon geologic map GIS (contacts, structures, and map units) i1109cin.e00 - cinder cones (point GIS) i1109gm.e00 - geomorphic features (polygon GIS) i1109sam.e00 - rock samples with radiometric age dates (point GIS) i1109sdp.e00 - structural map symbols (point GIS) i1109met.txt - FGDC-compliant metadata file Adobe portable document format (*.pdf) plot files derived from the spatial digital database: i1109_e.pdf - Geologic map of the eastern part of the spatial digital database i1109_w.pdf - Geologic map of the western part of the spatial digital database Grayscale raster image files (*.jpg) of the original paper maps by Drewes (1980) i1109_e.jpg - sheet 1 (Drewes, 1980) i1109_w.jpg - sheet 2 (Drewes, 1980)
