00readme.txt, 9/1/2000, pd; 6/8/01, pd (added approval date, corrected HZK name); Harrison, J.E., Cressman, E.R., Whipple, J.W., Kayser, H.Z., Derkey, P.D., and EROS Data Center, 2000, Geologic map of the Kalispell 1o x 2o quadrangle, Montana, and Alberta and British Columbia: a digital database: U.S. Geological Survey Miscellaneous Investigations Series Map I-2267, version 1.0, 23 p., scale 1:250,000. (received Director's approval 10/5/00) This report describes the contents of a digital data set which consists of Arc/Info interchange-format files and associated macro programs. A page-sized, color version of the digital geologic map is included in the report. The data set also includes macro programs and complete plot files for creating a paper copy of the map at a scale of 1:250,000. The data set is available on the World Wide Web at http://geopubs.wr.usgs.gov/i-map/i-2267/. It is also available via anonymous FTP from: geopubs.wr.usgs.gov, in the directory: pub/i-map/i-2267. Requirements: A networked computer system is required to copy the data set from the host computer across the Internet. A geographic information system (GIS) capable of importing Arc/Info interchange-format files is required for access to the digital files. All plot files are stored in HPGL2 format. The digital data set files are in UNIX ASCII format. *************************************************** Explanation of digital data files: The Kalispell 250K GIS is available as one UNIX compressed TAR file, mi-2267.tar.Z, which includes the report text (mi-2267.pdf) in an Adobe Acrobat Portable Document File (PDF) format. To download the GIS data files, create a new workspace in a UNIX working environment and copy the mi-2267.tar.Z file to your new workspace. Use the command 'uncompress -v mi-2267.tar.Z' to uncompress the mi-2267.tar.Z file. Then use the command 'tar -xvf filename.tar' to extract the files from the resulting mi-2267.tar file. And finally, to import the Arc/Info interchange-format files (*e00) into your workspace, open Arc/Info on your workstation and enter '&run importfile' at the Arc prompt. Your working directory should contain the following files: 00readme.txt - this UNIX ASCII file importfile.aml - Arc/Info program to import Arc/Info interchange-format files into the user's workspace. mi-2267.pdf - report text in Adobe Acrobat Portable Document File (PDF) format. Primary Arc/Info interchange-format (*.e00) and metadata (*.met) files for the Kalispell digital geologic map: kal250k.e00 - principal vector file for the geologic map GIS. kal250k.met - metadata file Additional Arc/Info interchange-format files (*.e00) necessary to re-create the digital geologic map: calcomp1.shd.e00 - calcomp1.shd shadeset fnt037.e00 - font 37 fnt038.e00 - font 38 fnt040.e00 - font 40 geol_sfo.lin.e00 - lineset kaltm.e00 - exterior boundary of the Kalispell quadrangle, mathematically generated. Arc/Info AML, graphics, key, and text files necessary to re-create the digital geologic map sheet: kal250k.aml - program to create graphics file of the geologic map scale2a.aml - program to plot scale bar indx_kal.gra - index map graphic file usgslogo.gra - USGS visual identity kal_line.key - lineset symbol values and descriptive text for lines on the map kal_pol.key - shadeset symbol values and descriptive text for geologic map units on the map geo.prj - a text file used to identify real-world (geographic) coordinates - for use in adding latitude and longitude notation around the margins of the Kalispell quadrangle. tvm.prj - a text file to identify Transverse Mercator projection - for use in adding latitude and longitude notation around the margins of the Kalispell quadrangle. kal_crd.txt - text file listing map credits kal_disc.txt - text file for USGS disclaimer kal_ref.txt - text file listing map references Plotter calibration file: cal.dat - the color calibration file used in the Arc/Info 'HPGL2' command to create plot files of the plates for plotting on the USGS HP650C in the Spokane Field Office. This file is a custom file for this particular plotter. Other plotters will require their own custom color calibration file.
