Billingsley and Jeremiah Workman, U.S. Geological Survey Publication_Date: 2000 Title: Geologic Map of the Littlefield 30' x 60' Quadrangle, Mohave County, Northwestern Arizona Edition: Version 1.1 Geospatial_Data_Presentation_Form: vector digital data (Personal Geodatabase) Series_Information: Series_Name: U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Series Issue_Identification: Map I-2628 Publication_Information: Publication_Place: Flagstaff, Arizona Publisher: U.S. Geological Survey Online_Linkage: http://pubs.usgs.gov/imap/i2628/ Description: Abstract: This digital database, which was compiled from existing published and unpublished maps, as well as new mapping, contains geologic data used to produce the 1:100,000-scale Geologic Map of the Littlefield 30' x 60' Quadrangle, Mohave County, Northwestern Arizona. The geologic features mapped as part of this project include: geologic contacts and faults, bedrock and surficial geologic units, structural data, fold axes, karst features, mines, and volcanic features. The data were digitized and attributed from a scan of the source map (see Process Description for details). Refer to accompanying pamphlet for references to map sources. Note: This metadata report provides an overview of the data content of this geodatabase. In addition, each feature class (except annotation feature classes) has a corresponding metadata report that should be referred to for additional Spatial Data Organization, Data Quality and Entity Attribute information. Version 1.1, March, 2014 - Minor edits were made to the geodatabase to correct geology and facilitate edgematch with adjacent USGS maps. - The database was upgraded from ArcGIS 9.3 to ArcGIS 10.2. - Changes made to the geodatabase are not reflected in the pamphlet or on map sheet PDFs. Purpose: This digital database was produced to provide a better understanding of the transition in regional geology between the Basin and Range and Colorado Plateau Provinces in southeastern Nevada, southwestern Utah, and northwestern Arizona. Geologic information presented in this database will be useful for resource management studies by federal, state, and private agencies. Supplemental_Information: The structure of this Geodatabase and its associated feature classes, as well as the feature class naming conventions, loosely follows The National Park Service Geologic Resources Evaluation Geology-GIS Geodatabase Data Model (DRAFT, V. 1.2), which can be found at: http://science.nature.nps.gov/im/inventory/geology/GeologyGISDataModel.htm Feature classes: geologic contacts and faults (lfglg_arc) geologic unit labels (lfglg_pt) geologic unit polygons (lfglg_poly_100k) folds (lffld) attitudes, foliation joints, fault offsets, and domes (lfatd) karst features (lfkar) mines (lfmin) cross-section lines (lfsec) volcanic line features (lfvlf) volcanic vents (lfvpf) Annotation feature classes: dip and fault offset values (lfatd_100kanno) geologic unit annotation (lfglg_100kanno) Relationship classes: lfatd_100kanno - links lfatd to lfatd_100kanno lfglg_100kanno - links lfglg_pt to lfglg_100kanno Related tables: List of 100,000-scale geologic map units (lflmu100k) Time_Period_of_Content: Time_Period_Information: Single_Date/Time: Calendar_Date: 2000 Currentness_Reference: publication date Status: Progress: Complete Maintenance_and_Update_Frequency: As needed Spatial_Domain: Bounding_Coordinates: West_Bounding_Coordinate: -114.013530 East_Bounding_Coordinate: -112.995752 North_Bounding_Coordinate: 37.016044 South_Bounding_Coordinate: 36.483880 Keywords: Theme: Theme_Keyword_Thesaurus: none Theme_Keyword: geologic map Theme_Keyword: geology Theme_Keyword: geologic structure data Theme_Keyword: attitudes Theme_Keyword: strikes and dips Theme_Keyword: domes Theme_Keyword: foliation Theme_Keyword: fault offset Theme_Keyword: joints Theme_Keyword: fold axis Theme_Keyword: anticline Theme_Keyword: syncline Theme_Keyword: monocline Theme_Keyword: geologic contacts Theme_Keyword: geologic faults Theme_Keyword: geologic units Theme_Keyword: karst Theme_Keyword: sinkhole Theme_Keyword: collapse structure Theme_Keyword: mines Theme_Keyword: gypsum Theme_Keyword: natural stone Theme_Keyword: copper Theme_Keyword: geologic cross section Theme_Keyword: volcanoes Theme_Keyword: basalt flow Theme_Keyword: volcanic vent Theme_Keyword: pyroclastic cone Place: Place_Keyword_Thesaurus: none Place_Keyword: Littlefield Place_Keyword: Colorado Plateau Place_Keyword: Basin and Range Place_Keyword: Mohave County Place_Keyword: Arizona Place_Keyword: USA Access_Constraints: none Use_Constraints: Not for use at scales greater than 1:100,000. Digital review was provided by Tracey Felger of the U.S. Geological Survey. Native_Data_Set_Environment: ESRI ArcGIS 10.2, Personal Geodatabase Data_Quality_Information: Attribute_Accuracy: Attribute_Accuracy_Report: Geologic features were identified, mapped, digitized and attributed by coauthors George Billingsley and Jeremiah Workman, then cross-checked visually against the original source map. Logical_Consistency_Report: This database has been reviewed and is considered to be error-free. All features have attributes. Each line segment has a length and directionality that is appropriate for the geologic feature it depicts. No sliver polygons are present. Completeness_Report: This database is considered complete. All geologic features depicted on the source map were digitized and attributed. Positional_Accuracy: Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy: Horizontal_Positional_Accuracy_Report: These data are considered to be accurately located and within the National Map Accuracy Standard of +/-50 meters for 1:100,000-scale maps. This accuracy diminishes in areas where the topography is either flat or very steep, or where the geologic feature of interest is difficult to discern. For example, contacts between surficial units are often difficult to discern and are considered to be approximately located despite being attributed as accurately located. Lineage: Process_Step: Process_Description: This digital database was compiled from existing 1:24,000-scale and 1:31,680-scale geologic maps. New mapping and refinement of the surficial geology on existing maps was accomplished using 1976, 1:24,000-scale, infrared aerial photographs from the BLM. Mapping was field checked and compiled by George Billingsley on a paper copy of the Littlefield 1:100,000-scale topographic base map. The original level of detail was preserved as much as possible. The paper compilation was then redrafted onto a mylar version of the 1:100,000-scale map. A clear-film positive was made, then scanned and processed by Jeremiah Workman. Geologic lines were created from the scan by cleaning and vectorizing in LT4X, followed by import into ARC/INFO Version 7.0.3. Subsequent editing and attributing was performed in ARCEDIT. Faults were digitized with the down-thrown block, if known, on the 'right side' of the line. The 'right' and 'left' sides of a line are determined from 'starting' at the line's 'from node' and moving to the line's end or 'to node'. All other features were digitized and edited in GSMCAD and then imported into ARC/INFO. Sue Priest converted the coverages to ArcGIS Personal Geodatabase format and modified the internal database structure and feature attributes to match other geologic map databases being created for the Grand Canyon region.
