Members of the Human-Induced Land Transformations (HILT) team have produced an animation showing the growth of urbanization in the SanSac region from 1850 to 1990. The animation is based on the delineation of urban development from historical maps from the USGS archives and other sources, and on more recent Landsat data.

If you want to see the HILT animation it will take about 2 minutes to view the 160 years of SanSac urban (a "timescale" of about 1:40,000,000). Don't forget to return to this exploration when you're done!

The animation is available on videotape from the USGS Library in Menlo Park; call Michael Moore at 415-329-5009 (fax 5132).
