Figure 3. Model of a representative cycle of deposition in the Manning Formation, Brazos River Valley area. The cycle-center horizon marks the deepest water deposit, usually corresponding to change in sediment grain size from fining-upwards to coarsening-upwards. Lithology and structures vary in response to energy conditions, rates of sediment accumulation, and proportion of marine to nonmarine deposits. Cycles are separated by and exposure surface, usually rooted, which may have a distinct paleosol developed on it.
