Abstract:
This data set is a point coverage representing Alaskan coal
fields of undetermined extent. Resolution of data
is 1:5000000. The points were collected from Farrell Barnes's
"Coal Fields of the United States, Alaska"(sheet 2, 1960) map.
Updates are planned for the future. These updates will include
the polygons used by energy resource regions of the U.S.G.S
Energy Program in the National Coal Assessment. Data from Alaska
will be incorporated using the most recent digital data available
from Alaskan authorities.
Purpose:
This data set was compiled primarily for use in cartographic
products. This coverage has also been used in web applications
as well as in other miscellaneous graphic proudcts. Overall,
the need for a digital version of this data was the underlying
reason for generating this data set. Related covers include
USCOAL (polygon coverage of US coal fields) and USCOKECOAL (point
coverage of Alaska coal).

the POINT option within ARC/INFO. This command creates a point
attribute table.
Completeness_Report:
This data set is a representation of the coal fields in Alaska of an
undetermined extent. As such, they are represented as point features.
The Barnes map was the only source of information ussed. Team
scientists determined that this would provide the most up to date
information concerning Alaskan coal fields of an "unknown" extent.
