INTRODUCTION

The current bibliography of environmental references is based in part on earlier bibliographies by Mary G. Curry (1984, with updates in 1986 and 1987), and by Rod E. Emmer in 1984-5. The references were in ASCII text format, including key words. Many items refer to newspaper, government or survey reports that are not widely distributed but may have importance for full documentation of the Lake Pontchartrain Basin (LPB) environment. The bibliography includes topics in biology, chemistry, contamination and pollution, economics, engineering, erosion, fisheries, geology, history, hydrology and floods, general overviews, municipal affairs, navigation, petroleum, planning, political and legal issues, wetlands, and other bibliographies.

HOW TO USE THE BIBLIOGRAPHY AS PRESENTED ON THE CD-ROM

The bibliography itself is provided in five formats: three popular desktop software formats and two delimited ASCII text files. All were created in Microsoft EXCEL, Version 5.1. In the delimited ASCII text files each field or column of data is separated from the next by tabs or commas, depending on which file you choose. These files can be downloaded into many types of software. The formatted files will open in the appropriate software if you have the applications installed and your web browser is properly configured. Additional help searching, copying, etc.
