URBAN RUNOFF

Urban runoff is the single largest source of pollution along Lake Pontchartrain's south shore. It is also becoming a problem on the lake's rapidly developing north shore.

Both are surrounded by levees. All stormwater (i.e. rain) must be pumped out of the levee system, and into Lake Pontchartrain, to prevent flooding.
