  15. Ship's Crew: unspecified
  16. Cruise Narrative: On September 8th, 1976 the R/V FAY left Woods Hole, Mass. to attempt to locate drill pipe equipment left on the ocean floor by the drill ship GLOMAR CONCEPTION.
  17. The survey area encompassed an area of 3 miles wide by 3 miles long, centered on Drill Site # where the pipe assembly was lost. The technique used was to use a side scan sonar system (Klein Associates, New Hampshire) to sweep the area along E-W and N-S lines spaced approximately 300 feet apart. Navigation was obtained using the Western Geophysical INS which was fairly reliable. The survey traversed approximately 74 miles (approx. 140 km) of trackline.

Analysis of data aboard the vessel suggested some possible targets, but further post-cruise analysis was necessary to confirm whether or not the pipe had in fact been located.
