Field measures of gravel quality in the South Platte River north of Denver, Colorado: a pilot study, U. S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 97-451, by David A. Lindsey and John F. Shary This report identifies field measures of aggregate quality and sampling procedures for modeling and assessing alluvial gravel deposits in the Front Range Urban Corridor, Colorado. Measures of particle size, lithology, shape, and roundness of gravel in lateral bars of the South Platte River are presented and statistically analyzed. Optimal sample design for mapping aggregate quality within drainages and at scales of typical gravel mining operations is discussed.
