ABOUT SunTar 2.1.4 Download from www.shareware.com

DOWNLOAD HERE: Suntar214.hqx is the cheapest way to transfer data between a Macintosh and an UNIX workstation if a few, minimal hardware requirements are met. Suntar is also a MacBinary, BinHex and PackIt extractor hence it may be moderately useful even to people without access to UNIX machines. ...

This utility was originally written to allow the authors to transfer UNIX and Macintosh files back and forth between a Sun workstation and a Mac LC, using floppy disks formatted for DOS (the only format both platforms could read). Suntar reads UNIX tar archives and extracts the contents into Macintosh-readable files. There is also a version that runs on the UNIX end to create the archives. Useful if you don't have your UNIX and Macintosh machines on the same network.

As an added bonus, suntar extracts BinHex 4.0 (.hqx), uuencoded (.uu) and PackIt (.pit) files, and translates ASCII files between UNIX, MS-DOS, and Macintosh formats. But, while the actual extraction routines are quick, suntar is an application, and so is not nearly as quick to use as the more popular drag & drop solutions to these problems, such as Stuffit Expander.

SunTar is rated 3 mice at MacDownload. Download SunTar 2.1.3 from MacDownload. (Virus checked by SAM 4.5.1. Version 2.1.3 fixes bugs, improves tape handling, and does not block the Macintosh while working with slow SCSI devices.) -- Karl Bates (MacDownload, ZDNet, Ziff-Davis Publishing Company)
